Why
Use Uni?
STUDENT
Uniplacement
gives students opportunity to choose companies they would like to work for in
specific towns, perhaps near their home area or an area that they would eventually
like to work or live.
Uniplacement allows students access to only the companies that offer twelve
month placements (work experience).
Uniplacement offers students the opportunity to choose their Sector,
if it is not already apparent by their choice of course.
Uniplacement offers students information about the cream of British Industry,
Commerce and Service.
UNIVERSITIES
Uniplacement offers an aid to Placement
Offices in Universities Nationwide. By supplying details of businesses providing
twelve month placements Uniplacement supplements work undertaken in Universities
and offers students the facility to help themselves.
BUSINESS
Uniplacement allows businesses the
opportunity to advertise themselves to a highly motivated, eager to learn and
earn community. Offering twelve month placements to students provides many benefits
for example:-
l The opportunity
to recruit a graduate who is already familiar with the organisation, known to
the employer, and can often reduce subsequent graduate training time.
l Employees
who are capable of multi-tasking and working on projects.
l Cover
for a temporary or unforeseen increases in workload.
l Specialist
knowledge and a valuable external viewpoint on business problems. A twelve month
placement can be seen as an extended interview for both parties, and is a very
effective way of recruiting. Both parties know what is expected of them and
graduate retention can be greatly increased. A high percentage of students undertaking
placements return to their placement employers upon graduation, with as many
as fifty percent applying to companies offering placements.
The Government
commissioned 'Dearing Report' highlights the importance Government places
on student work experience. The following extracts are taken from the report:-
Chapter 9 "We recommend that all institutions should,
over the medium term, identify opportunities to increase the extent to which
programmes help students to become familiar with work, and help them to reflect
on such experience".
Chapter 11 "We recommend that the Government, with
immediate effect, works with representative employer and professional organisations
to encourage employers to offer more work experience opportunities for students"
We recommend that companies should take a strategic view of their relationship
with higher education and apply the same level of planning to it that they give
to other aspects of their operations.
The Department of Education and Skills has published the Work Related Learning Report (February 2002) which can be downloaded from this site. It 'explores the importance of work related learning, how it benefits all parties and the need to recognise such learning formally'.
